Gerard Way, prepoznavni obraz in glas zasedbe My Chemical Romance, se podaja v nov glasbeni projekt z naslovom The Mock-Ups, v katerem sodelujejo tudi člani skupine The Interrupters. Nova glasba bo po napovedih izšla kmalu.
Po informacijah založbe Gauzy Records Gerard Way v projektu prevzema vlogo pevca in basista. Ob njem so svoje moči združili še Aimee (spremljevalni vokali), Michael Schulz (kitara), Kevin Bivona (klaviature, produkcija) in Jesse Bivona (bobni). Aimee, Kevin in Jesse sicer prihajajo iz ska-punk zasedbe The Interrupters, za inženiring pa je poskrbel dolgoletni Wayev sodelavec Doug McKean.
Prvi singel, naslovljen “The Mock-Ups: I Wanna Know Your Name”, je že v pripravi in naj bi ga javnost dobila v poslušanje v kratkem. Za zdaj še ni jasno, v katero glasbeno smer bo novi projekt krenil – objavljeni promocijski materiali so sicer razkrili drobce domnevnih besedil, a žanr in slog ostajata skrivnost. Tudi sama založba Gauzy Records ostaja zavezana odprtosti, saj poudarja, da je »definirana z ambicijo in estetiko, ne pa z žanrom ali subkulturo«.
Gerard Way pa v tem času nikakor ne počiva. Skupaj z My Chemical Romance trenutno osvaja Severno Ameriko na turneji Long Live The Black Parade, ki jih bo v prihodnjih mesecih odpeljala še v Azijo in – upajmo – tudi v Evropo. Kdaj je Way našel čas za novi projekt, ostaja uganka, prav tako pa tudi to, kdaj bodo oboževalci prvič lahko v polnosti slišali, kaj prinašajo The Mock-Ups.

Gerard Way, the iconic voice of My Chemical Romance, has joined forces with members of The Interrupters in a brand-new musical venture called The Mock-Ups. According to the label Gauzy Records, the first taste of their music will be arriving soon.
Way is credited as both lead vocalist and bassist in the project, which also features Aimee on backing vocals, Michael Schulz on guitar, Kevin Bivona handling keyboards and production, and Jesse Bivona on drums. The Bivona trio (Aimee, Kevin, and Jesse) are well known from The Interrupters, while engineering duties are taken care of by longtime Way collaborator Doug McKean.
The first single, titled “The Mock-Ups: I Wanna Know Your Name”, is already on the way. While the exact musical direction remains a mystery, early teasers hint at fragments of lyrics, though the style and atmosphere are still kept under wraps. Gauzy Records themselves describe their approach as “driven by ambition and aesthetics, not tied to genre or subculture.”
Meanwhile, Gerard Way remains fully occupied with My Chemical Romance’s extensive Long Live The Black Parade tour, currently rolling through North America before continuing to Asia and eventually Europe. How Way managed to carve out time for a completely new project is anyone’s guess – just as much as when fans will finally get to experience the world of The Mock-Ups.

Aimee, Kevin und Jesse sind ohnehin als Mitglieder der Ska-Punk-Band The Interrupters bekannt. Um den Sound kümmert sich als Engineer kein Geringerer als Doug McKean, ein langjähriger Wegbegleiter von Way.
Die Debüt-Single trägt den Titel „The Mock-Ups: I Wanna Know Your Name“ und soll in Kürze veröffentlicht werden. Wie genau die Band klingen wird, bleibt noch ein Geheimnis. Erste Teaser deuten auf mögliche Songtexte hin, über den Stil oder das Genre gibt es jedoch noch keine Hinweise. Gauzy Records selbst beschreibt sich als „nicht durch Genre oder Subkultur definiert, sondern vereint durch Ambition und Ästhetik“.
Gleichzeitig tourt Gerard Way derzeit intensiv mit My Chemical Romance auf der großen Long Live The Black Parade-Tour, die nach Nordamerika und Asien auch nach Europa führen wird. Wie Way nebenbei noch Zeit für ein komplett neues Projekt gefunden hat, bleibt ein Rätsel – ebenso wie der Zeitpunkt, an dem Fans endlich den Sound von The Mock-Ups zu hören bekommen.
