Od izida znamenite »Banane« je minilo že 45 let, ob tej priložnosti bo 1. oktobra izšla razširjena izdaja v obliki box seta s kar šestimi nosilci zvoka tega klasičnega The Velvet Underground albuma.
Založba Universal Music ne bo skoparila z obsegom nove ponovne izdaje debitantskega The Velvet Underground & Nico albuma. Skupno bo box namreč vseboval kar šest CD-jev, tako ali drugače povezanih s tem albumom.
Na prvem in drugem CD-ju bodo originalne skladbe v mono in stereo različici, nadalje bo zraven tudi solo prvenec nemške pevke Nico »Chelsea Girl«, studijski posnetki vaj iz »Tovarne«, in še legendarni koncert iz Columbusa, kjer so The Velvet Underground pod mentorstvom Andyja Warhola igrali v Valleydale Ballroomu.
The Velvet Underground niso nikoli prodali mnogo plošč, ampak, kot se govori za njihove oboževalce, je še vsakogar njihova glasba prisilila, da je v roke prijel inštrument in še sam začel preigravati. Čeprav tipično The Velvet Underground skladbo sestavljajo isti trije akordi in venomer ista ritem spremljava, so bili Velveti edinstveni v njihovi preprostosti, občutku za lepoto v grdem in seveda besedilih. V letih rožic in hipijevstva so govorili o splošni družbeni odtujenosti, problemu o zasvojenosti z drogami, nasilju in obupu, opozarjali so na probleme modernega urbanega življenja. Delovanje skupine je imelo velik vpliv na razvoj celotne glasbene scene, zazanamovali so glasbene poti izvajalcev, kot so David Bowie, The New York Dolls, Patti Smith, Mott the Hoople, Roxy Music, The Sex Pistols, R.E.M., Sonic Youth in številnih drugih.
